Shuffle Blues Bass Groove in A

by Troy Hickle

This intermediate bass lesson focuses on playing a blues style bass line in the key of A. The bass line is created using the 1st (Root), 3rd, 4th and 5th notes or scale tones/degrees
of a major scale while adding a b7th.

In addition it also uses ½ steps and notes and tones not in the major scale referred as passing tones, accidentals (notes not normally part of the key) to create movement within the line and smooth transition into the next chord change.

Chords for this blues bass lesson are all Dominant 7th chords A7, D7 and E7 (root-3rd-5th-b7th).
